Privacy Policy

Red Box Annotation is built so that your work product stays with you. This page explains exactly what data we handle, where it lives, and why.

Your screenshots and annotations stay in your browser

Captured screenshots, detected links, and every annotation you make are stored only in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB) on your device. They are not uploaded to or retained on our servers. Clearing your browser data deletes them; we cannot recover them for you.

What our servers do see

When you run a capture, our server receives the URL you submitted and renders it through a third-party headless-browser service (Browserless.io) to produce the screenshot, which is returned to your browser and not stored by us. For quota enforcement and abuse protection we log each capture request: the URL, your IP address, approximate region, browser user-agent, referring page, timing and success/failure metrics, and — if you are signed in — your account ID.

Accounts

Sign-in is handled by Clerk (clerk.com), which processes your email address and authentication credentials as our processor. We store your Clerk account ID and, for signed-in users, a minimal log of session metadata (capture URL, device type, timestamps) — never the screenshot or annotation content.

Payments

Paid plans, when available, are processed by Clerk Billing with Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

What we don’t do

• No advertising trackers and no sale of data.
• No access to the content of your captures or exports.
• No password-page credentials stored server-side: HTTP Basic Auth details you enter are used for the capture request and kept only in your own browser.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting, cookie-free page analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) to understand aggregate site usage.

Retention and deletion

Capture-request logs are kept for operational and abuse-prevention purposes. To delete your account and associated server-side records, email us at redboxannotation@gmail.com — we’ll confirm within 30 days. Local browser data is under your control at all times.
